The Pyrotechnic Guild International 2023 convention

Sept. 22, 2023

The Pyrotechnics Guild International was founded in 1969 in the USA by Max P. Vander Horck, then publisher of a monthly fireworks newsletter titled American Pyrotechnist. Current membership stands at over 1,600. Members are from all walks of life, and range from people with just a passing interest all the way up to hard-core fireworks enthusiasts.

Every summer, members of the Pyrotechnic Guild International assemble for the PGI annual convention. It's a full week of entertainment and education, with nightly fireworks shooting and beautiful displays.

The convention includes a full slate of lectures, seminars, and classes—on everything from basic fireworks safety to designing musically choreographed displays that will move your audience to tears. Facilities are provided for members to conduct certain types of fireworks manufacturing activities under safe and controlled guidelines. Seminars, workshops, and member experts show you how.

During the week there are multiple fireworks displays—both traditional and pyro-musicals—as well as fireworks product demonstrations. The final night includes the PGI “All Stars” display featuring the work of the Guild's most talented fireworks makers.

This year the convention took place at the Sunnyview Expo Center in the city of Oshkosh of Winnebago County, Wisconsin, on August 12 to 18. The final display was presented by Casabella Pyrotechnics, and we strongly recommend all our readers to watch the magnificent show which happened to be the great way to end the week!
