UK’s Firework Champions 2023: Hatfield House edition

Oct. 3, 2023

Hatfield House is a Grade I listed country house set in a large park on the eastern side of the town of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England. The present house, a prime example of Jacobean architecture, was built in 1611 by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Chief Minister to King James I. The house replaced the palace which had been the childhood home and favorite residence of Queen Elizabeth I.

Steeped in over 400 years of history, its Gardens date from the early 17th century, when Robert Cecil employed John Tradescant the Elder to collect plants from all over Europe for his new home. The trees, bulbs, plants and fruit trees, which had never been grown before in England, have crafted the inspiring and fragrant gardens you can explore today. The gardens included orchards, fountains, scented plants, water parterres, terraces, herb gardens and a foot maze.

Hatfield House has been used for location filming on a number of film, including Batman (1989), Hot Fuzz (2007), Shakespeare in Love (1998), Paddington (2014), The Avengers (1998) and V for Vendetta (2006).

On September 16th this year Hatfield House hosted the sixth edition of UK’s Firework Champions 2023.
